Danny L. Elam, 86, of Champaign, passed away Monday (Jan. 7, 2019) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Danny L. Elam, 86, of Champaign, passed away Monday (Jan. 7, 2019) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019 at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Dr. West, Savoy. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, also at Morgan Memorial Home, with Hank Sanford officiating. Internment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Champaign.
Danny was born August 23, 1932 in Champaign, to Clifford M. and F. Della Elam. He married B. Joanne Sefton on March 20, 1955 near Louisville, IL.
He is survived by his loving wife in Champaign and two children: sons Steven L. (Carol) Elam of Folsom, CA and Kevin S. (Maria) Elam of Farragut, TN; seven grandchildren; one brother, James (Bonnie) Elam of Owaneco, IL; and one sister, Jean (Dick) Barr of Leesburg, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Caraher of Arthur.
Danny grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in 1951. He attended the University of Illinois and Millikin University before receiving a bachelor’s degree in Business from Eastern Illinois University in 1958.
Danny was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving 1953 through 1955.
Danny worked for U. S. Industrial Chemicals Corp. in Tuscola, Hawke General Tire, Inc. in Decatur, Harlan E. Moore and Co. in Champaign, WRTL Radio in Rantoul, and the University of Illinois office administration in the Physics, Chemistry, and Rehabilitation departments.
Danny had a lifetime enthusiasm for sports and athletics. After being a high school track star, Danny later enjoyed tennis and bicycle riding. As the years went by, the interest moved to chess and bridge.
Danny and Joanne had been long-time members of First Christian Church of Champaign. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
