David L. Reinertsen, 91, passed away from this life at Carle Hospital. Friday evening, November 30th, 2018.

David L. Reinertsen, 91, passed away from this life at Carle Hospital. Friday evening, November 30th, 2018.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, Champaign, Pastor Chris Repp will officiate. Burial will be in Shields Cemetery, Canton. Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy is in charge of arrangements.
David was born in Chicago to Dr. Paul and Ethel Reinertsen. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy, his son, Paul of Galesburg, his daughter, Karen (Darren) Phillips of Mahomet, grandson, Jacob Phillips of Richardson, TX, brother, Raoul (Anita) Reinertsen, stepbrother, Don (Nancy) Howerter, stepsister, Shirley (Bernie) Shoop and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Maxine and sister Margery.
David was a resident of Chicago, Auburn, Lewiston and Canton before living in Champaign for more than 60 years.
He enlisted in the US Navy prior to his graduation from Canton High School in 1945. He served aboard the ARD-26, a floating dry dock, at Apra Harbor, Guam.
After his Navy service he graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island with graduate work in Geology from the University of Missouri. He worked at the Illinois State Geological Survey, retiring in 1992. He was the head of Educational Extension and wrote many resource materials.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Champaign and sang in the church choir for all of his life in Champaign. He belonged to the American Legion and several Geological Societies.
David loved gardening, photography, hummingbirds, lunching with friends, and had a special appreciation for all of the beauty which he enjoyed on this earth in his many travels.
