Donna Kuhlman, 79, of Savoy died at 5:26 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Donna was born June 2, 1938 in Galesburg, IL. Her parents were Floyd and Doris Walker, Galva, IL They are deceased. She met her husband, Don Kuhlman, in 1960 who was Assistant Farm Adviser in Montgomery County Illinois. They were married June 24, 1962 in Galva, Illinois.

She and Don have two sons, David Kuhlman of Maricopa, Arizona and Daniel Kuhlman of Maricopa, Arizona who survive along with many cousins.

Donna was raised on a farm in Knox County, IL. She was an active member in 4-H and won numerous county and state awards for sewing and cooking projects. She was awarded the 4-H Key Club Award in Knox County for her outstanding 4-H projects and activities.

Donna graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.

After graduation she was employed as an Assistant Home Adviser in Adams County by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service.

Donna taught high school at Gillespie, IL in 1961-62.
Don served as Farm Adviser in Montgomery County from 1962-65 and then returned to the University of Illinois in Champaign to work on his PhD in Entomology. Donna gave him extraordinary encouragement and support during his research for the PhD and throughout his career at the University of Illinois as a professor of agricultural entomology.

Donna was an excellent cook and seamstress and judged sewing projects at the Illinois State Fair for several years. She also collected cookbooks and thousands of recipes and enjoyed preparing many delicious meals for her family and friends. She was outgoing and looked forward and enjoyed helping others. She was an avid Illini football and basketball fan and she and Don had season tickets for 50 years and traveled to football games in every Big 10 football stadium.

Donna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign. She served as a Congregational Care Deacon and was a member of the Circle of Joy, Prayer Ministry Team, and Pakistan Study Group.

Donna served as a 4-H Club leader in Montgomery County. She also served as a Cub Scout leader in Champaign.

She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and served as an officer, a member of the Champaign-Urbana Home economists and served as treasurer, 2003-2006, a member of the Women’s Club, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Donna enjoyed flowers and birds, especially cardinals. At various times she had 6 to 8 different types of bird feeders, including one that she fashioned herself that was very effective in protecting seed and birds from predators.

She accompanied Don to Peshawar, Pakistan in 1992-1994 where Don worked on a project funded by USAID entitled “Transformation and Integration of the Provincial Agricultural Network”. She enjoyed living in Pakistan and made many Pakistani friends. She and Don enjoyed travel to Egypt, India, Thailand, China, Eastern Europe, Europe, Africa, and excursions throughout the U.S.

On a cruise to Alaska, she and Don celebrated her 70th birthday on June 2nd by flying in a ski plane around Mt. McKinley and landing on Ruth Glacier, in honor of her middle name, Ruth.

Donna dearly loved her sons and many friends.

A memorial service for Donna will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign at 11:00a.m. The family requests no flowers.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Champaign, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, or University of Illinois College of ACES.
