James Cox, 80, of Champaign, IL went to his eternal home at 11:52 PM, April 21, 2016. Born March 8, 1936 in Princeton, Indiana to Percy Douglas and Mae Bell Cox. At the age of two his family moved to Lawrenceville, Illinois. Upon graduating from Lawrenceville Township High School Jim enlisted in the United States Navy June 1954 for a four year tour of duty. His last duty was aboard the USS Salisbury Sound (AV-13) when he was honorably discharged July 1958.

Jim moved to Champaign, IL and enlisted at Illinois Commercial College and began taking courses in accounting and business administration. He worked for Country Mutual Insurance Company as a statistician until the summer of 1962, when He married Mary H. Dennis of Augusta, IL. The two built a house in 1963 and put down roots and began raising a family of three children; Philip Douglas, Bryan Lee, and Debra Sue.

Over the past 50 years Jim has been very involved in the Champaign community. Jim held various accounting and booking jobs for businesses in Champaign. He was activity in Scouting for over twenty years as a Cub Master for Pack 123 and a Scout Master for Troop 101. He was a youth leader at Faith United Methodist Church during the 70s and 80s and participated in the Methodist Men’s Club and a member for fifty-four years. He was an active member and treasurer for the Champaign County (IL) chapter of Pheasants Forever for fifteen years. He was a volunteer classroom helper at Kenwood Elementary school and always enjoyed telling us “I’m going back to the 2nd Grade.”

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister. Survivors include a sister Ruby (FL) and a brother Abe (IN), his wife Mary Cox, his sons Philip (Sharon) Cox and Bryan (Tina Elizabeth) Cox, his daughter Debra (Steve) Greaser. Additionally, he has eight grandchildren: Austin, Spencer, Britney, Coty, Gabrielle, Luke, Corey, and Brandi along with one great-grandchild: Finley.

In lieu of flowers and expression of sympathy, memorial gifts can be made to the following charities that Jim Supported. Champaign Centennial High School Archery Club, Pheasants Forever Champaign County IL Chapter 0203, Faith United Methodist Church, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association.

Visitation Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 5-8 PM at Morgan Memorial Homes, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, IL. Church Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10 AM at Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 S Prospect Ave, Champaign, IL followed by Military Honor Salute and earthly burial at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 4112 W. Bloomington Rd, Champaign, IL.
