Lynn Hoffmann, age 90, passed away on Friday morning August 12th of natural causes while surrounded by her family.

Lynn loved her family, her friends, music, giving back to the community and playing bridge. She felt fortunate to have been married to two wonderful husbands throughout her life, Joe McAllister and Al Hoffmann.   She was a positive force in many people’s lives, especially her family who survive her:  niece Debbie Ward and great nephew Zach Glass, nephew Pete Ward and his wife Kathy and two children Julie and Steve.

Lynn was a teacher and guidance councilor for almost 40 years having taught at Urbana High School and earlier in her career in Eureka. Her principal said of her:  “Lynn is that rare combination of maturity, experience, imagination, vivaciousness and patience that make the ideal teacher.”  Many of her student and their parents can attest to these qualities.

Lynn was a member and past president of PEO chapter KD, the Welcome Club and First Presbyterian Church Urbana where she was a soloist in the choir.  Music was key in Lynn’s life.  She sang in local musical theater and was frequently asked by friends and family to sing at weddings and celebrations.

Lynn was born to Esther Meacham Ward and Harold Ward in Park Ridge, Illinois, a town founded by her mother’s family.  She gained her talent and love of music from her mother who played for silent movies in Chicago and was a gifted and self-taught pianist.

Lynn completed her undergraduate degree from Eureka College and her graduate degree from Bradley University. She taught oversees in France for the army in the 60’s when she traveled extensively throughout Europe.

Lynn’s memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Urbana on Tuesday, August 16 at 2 pm.  A reception will follow at the church.

Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy is handling arrangements.  Condolences may be made at www.morganmemorialhome.com.
