Peggy Derby, 78, of Champaign, passed away at 2:40 p.m., on Thursday, September 10, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born October, 6, 1936, in Colorado Springs, CO, the daughter of Vivian and Oral Reynolds. She married her beloved husband, Russ, and celebrated 54 years together in May.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Duane (Sonny) Reynolds. She is survived by seven other siblings: Juanita (Sis) Doman, FL, Gordy (Shirley) Reynolds, Morton, Terry (Corrine) Reynolds, Urbana, Janice Mills, Gibson City, Sandy Shubert and Mona Reynolds, California.

Peggy was a devoted and loving mother and best friend to her daughters, Felicia (Mark) Greenwood, WI, and Beth (Tim) Day, Rantoul. Over the years she was a Brownie leader, swim team publicity chair, enthusiastic swim meet timer, and Tri Psi (Tri Delta Mom).

She was a beloved Nana to her three grandchildren, sharing her passions with each one: Her love of sand between her toes with Catey, her creative doodle drawing with Ben and her wanderlust for travel with Jack.

Peggy possessed such an adventurous spirit. She left home as a young woman to live in New York City, she dominated the bunny hills of Breckinridge Mountain at 53 years old, and traveled by herself on the trains of Germany.

She loved where she was born, Colorado, and visited there as often as she could. She loved the family cabin at Lake Sara, in Effingham, packing the car often with extra children, and showing extraordinary patience as she helped many family and friends learn to ski. But Peggy loved Sanibel Island, FL, the most, making many friends and fond memories over the 42 years of springs spent with Russ and her family on the sands of Loggerhead. Her joy of life will be celebrated and missed by all.
