Stephen E. Marshky, 81, of Monticello, Il (formally of Champaign), went to meet Jesus on July 4th, 2018 at 12:50 pm at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family.
Services will be held at Morgan Memorial Home in Savoy on Wednesday, July 11th. The visitation will start at 4:00 pm and the memorial will follow at 7:00 pm.
He was born in Monticello on July 3rd, 1937, the son of William and Nellie (Baker) Marshky. He married Margie J. Anderson of Clinton, on May 22nd, 1965 in Urbana, Il. Surviving him are his wife, one step-son Tim (Mary) Wyse of Champaign, and three children, Michael (Sarah) Marshky of White Heath, Craig Marshky of Monticello and Michelle Marshky of Monticello. Also surviving him are six grandchildren, Zack Marshky, Jake Marshky, Nick Marshky, Wyatt Burroughs, Jaden Marshky and Hannah Burroughs. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Camden Marshky.
He joined the Champaign Fire Department in March of 1964 and retired with the rank of Lieutenant in November of 1999. He served as secretary of the Fire Fighters Union Local #1260. He enjoyed educating children on fire safety and was instrumental in starting the traveling smoke trailer. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved being an active member of the Trinity Community Fellowship Church of Farmer City. His other passions were spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and scratching off lottery tickets. Always quick to smile, if you ever had the privilege to meet Steve, you liked him.
In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Trinity Fellowship Church of Farmer City.
