Steve A. Johnson, 90, of Champaign, died at his home on December 16, 2015.
Mr. Johnson was born on May 6, 1925 in Amal, Sweden, a son of Gerda Petersson and Carl Johnson. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1928.

Steve A. Johnson, 90, of Champaign, died at his home on December 16, 2015.
Mr. Johnson was born on May 6, 1925 in Amal, Sweden, a son of Gerda Petersson and Carl Johnson. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1928.
He married Mary Ann Johnson in 1950 who preceded him in death in 1989. They had three children who survive: Sharon Gilles (Dan), Champaign, and their daughter Elizabeth; Susan Miller (Craig), Champaign, and their daughters Catlin and Piper; and Ken Johnson (Vicki), Minneapolis, MN, and their son Alex (Ashlee).
He married Myrna (nee Chapman) King in 1992 and she survives. His sister, Irene Johnson (Earl), and sister-in-law Diane Vukson (Eli) also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gustof (Ann).
Mr. Johnson attended elementary, high school, and junior college in Chicago and earned an MBA degree from the University of Chicago in 1949.
During World War II, Steve served in the Army Amphibious Engineers, including two years in the South Pacific.
He served on the church councils of Augustana Lutheran Church of Hyde Park, Chicago; Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Holland; and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Champaign.
He was a charter member of the Lincolnshire Fields Country Club, serving as membership chair, treasurer for two years, and chairman of the finance committee for eight years. He also served as treasurer of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and of his local homeowner’s association.
He was a charter member of The National World War II Museum of New Orleans, LA, and member of American Legion Post # 24, Champaign.
He was employed by Solo Cup Company from 1949 to 1987, starting as a Junior Cost Accountant and retiring as Corporate Treasurer.
His principal hobbies were golf, videotaping his family’s life events, bicycling, playing piano and reading. He sang in the church choir and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He loved sports and was a devoted Illini fan.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, December 20, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon, Saturday, December 26, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2101 S. Prospect Avenue, Champaign, followed by military rites and burial at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
