URBANA – Thelma Helen Harshbarger, 96, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was welcomed into the open arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday (July 26, 2016). She passed away at Amber Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, Urbana.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 29, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, with funeral service to follow immediately after visitation. The Rev. Brent Roberson will officiate. Burial will be at the Mount Olive Cemetery, Mayview.

Thelma was born in Atwood on Oct. 14, 1919, a daughter of Fred A. and Bessie V. Swartz. In 1941, she married Lloyd Harshbarger, also from Atwood. He preceded her in death in 2006.

She is survived by her son, Dennis L. Harshbarger (Shirley) of Sidney; three grandsons, Daniel L. Harshbarger of Morton, Michael A. Harshbarger (Leah) of Champaign and Randall R. Harshbarger (Patricia) of Philo; and seven Harshbarger great-grandchildren, Cody, Hayden, Randa, Dominick, Tanley, Karyson and Rayna. Thelma is also survived by a sister, Alberta Crane of Lockhart, Texas; and brothers, Les Swartz of Decatur and Don Swartz of Atwood.

She was also preceded in death by her mother, father, three sisters and two brothers.

Thelma was an active member of the Urbana Foursquare Gospel Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school classes for many years. Thelma was a stay-home mother and housewife who truly loved and enjoyed every moment spent with her family and friends.

The family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to the entire Amber Glen staff for the excellent care and attention each of you provided to our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother during her four-year stay there with you!
