Alice M. Nelson, 70 died December 22, 2014 in Champaign, IL.  Formerly of Gibson City.

Alice was born on January 20, 1944 in Bloomington, IL to Otis and Pauline (Bishop) Cullip.  She graduated from Gibson City High School in 1962, where she was named “Best Dressed” in her class. She later graduated from Elkhart University with a physician’s assistant degree. She worked for many years in the laboratory at the Gibson Area Hospital, then for Dr. Ed Etherton, and finally for more than sixteen years as an accounting clerk at M & W Gear.

She married Harold R. Nelson on September 17, 1971 at Gibson City.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 2013. Surviving is a daughter, Teresa (Greg) Ives of Phoenix, AZ, a grandson, Clark (Jen) Kreitzer of Leesburg, VA, a granddaughter, Jacqueline Kreitzer of Tempe, AZ, a sister, Elizabeth (Maurie) Fry of Hoffman Estates, IL, and a brother in law, Gerald (Nancy) Nelson of Birmingham, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In 1998 she and Harold officially retired and moved to Champaign.

Alice was accomplished gourmet cook; and she and Harold held many dinner parties and entertained often throughout her life. She hosted her last dinner party on December 13, 2014. She was always in search of “the perfect flaky croissant”. She loved to work in her herb garden and was a voracious reader. She was a member of the Champaign County Herb Society, Friends of the Champaign Public Library, Friends of the Moyer Library, the First Christian Church of Gibson City, and was an active board member of the Windsor Pointe Condominium Association.

She was an avid fan of Illini basketball and the Survivor television series. She was proud of her personally autographed Survivor memorabilia.

There will be no funeral services at this time as Alice chose to donate her body to science.  A memorial service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Champaign Urbana Herb Society at 2060 B 125 County Road E, Mahomet, IL 61853 or to the First Christian Church 112 E. Twelfth Street, Gibson City, IL 60936. Condolences can be sent to Teresa Ives and family, 745 E. Tuckey Lane, Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy is handling arrangements.
