 Joan Moench, 96, of Seymour died peacefully on Friday March 20, 2015 at Piatt County Nursing Home.

Joan was born August 5, 1918 in St. Louis, the daughter of Eula Melton Arie and Mark Arie.

She is survived by her son, Gordon A (Carolyn) Ficklin, Urbana, daughter, Julie D (Butch) Stombaugh, Seymour, Granddaughter(s}, Christina (Mel) McGregor, Oakland, Deb Stombaugh, Bondville, Grandson(s), Ray (Joo) Stombaugh, Tolono, G. R. Ficklin, Tolono, Great Grandson, Jordon Ficklin, Great Granddaughter, Josie McGregor.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Mark (Frosty) Arie, husband(s), Victor K Moench and Raymond C. Ficklin.

Joan graduated from Champaign High School in 1936. She married Raymond C. Ficklin in 1938. They had two children, Gordon and Julie. Her husband –Raymond died in 1948. She later married Victor Moench in 1970.

Joan was a professional banker and worked at Commercial Bank as a teller for many years and retired from Bank of Illinois.  She enjoyed bowling, bingo and was an avid CUB FAN! Vic and Joan moved to Seymour in 1979.

Joan was very active in the community. She belonged to The Over 50 Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Bunko Club, Seymour United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women.

Joan was a loving caring woman and she always had a smile for everyone and had many, many friends.  She saw the need of others and fulfilled the need. In 1983 she was named Seymour Community Volunteer of the Year.  “She is bubbly, vivacious & always has a smile on her face. She would be the first person that any of the senior citizens in our small town would call if they had a need.”  Joan was a TeleCare driver for more than two years.  She will be missed by friends and family.

Visitation for Joan will be held on Tuesday March 24, 2015 from 10:00-to-11:00 A.M. at the Morgan Memorial Home 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy where funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Cindy Rettig officiating. Interment will be private at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana.

Memorials may be made to the Seymour United Methodist Church or to a charity of your choice in Joan’s name.
