His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant…Come and share your master’s happiness” (Matthew 25:23 NIV).
On Friday, September 20, 2019, at the age of 76, John Harvey Colclasure suddenly and unexpectedly took his last breath on earth (his first breath in heaven) in the air-conditioned comfort of his truck (tractor-loaded trailer attached), with his beloved dog Belle seated at his side. They were parked in the driveway at home waiting for Marsha to gather together a few things from the house they would need for the weekend project they had planned. However, the Lord clearly had other plans and had decided John’s work on earth was done. It was time for him to rest in peace and receive his heavenly reward for a life well lived.
John was born on November 20, 1942, the second of four children, and only son, of Del and Thelma (Spencer) Colclasure. He married Marsha Elizabeth Miller on October 19, 1969.
John had a servant’s heart. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War (1964-68), serving in the US Navy Seabees. His work history includes 12 years at The Andersons, initially helping build the grain elevators, then cheerfully serving customers in the general store. He retired after serving 22 years with the Mahomet-Seymour School District as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds.
John will be remembered as a kind, loving, selfless, honest, hardworking, loyal, strong, dependable, consistent, humble, honorable, godly man. A gentle giant!
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his beloved wife of one-month-short-of-50 years, Marsha Elizabeth; his two sons, John Charles and Martin Paul; five grandchildren, Holley, Hayden, Aerial, Noah, and Cora; three sisters, Toni Warner, Sandy Colclasure, and Jeanie Mitchem; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Roger) Lott; brother-in-law, Mike (Jayne) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 28, at 10:00 am at the Mahomet Christian Church, 908 N. Lake of the Woods Road, with Pastor David Johnson officiating.
Memorials may be made in John’s name to the Mahomet Christian Church of which he was a charter member.
