Ola Beatrice Selley Luther died March 1, 2019 at Lakeland Nursing Home in Effingham, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy, Illinois at 1:00 p.m. on March 6, 2019 with visitation one hour before the service. An Eastern Star service will take place. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign County.
Mrs. Luther was born on September 22, 1923 in Cumberland County, a daughter of Lester Louis Seely and Ora Beatrice Padrick. She grew up near Shumway, IL and graduated from Effingham High School. On Sept. 28, 1949 she married Elmer R. Luther in Champaign. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and husband. She is survived by a sister, Velma Jean Kirchhofer, 2 nieces and a nephew.
She received a B.S. from Eastern Illinois Teacher’s College and an M.A. from the University of Nebraska. She worked in defense plants in Illinois and Wisconsin during WWII, was a ghost writer and taught a University of Wyoming Extension class in Casper, WY. She taught third grade at Fisher, IL Elementary for 31 years. She was Mother Advisor of Champaign Assembly #21, Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was a Past Officer and Secretary of Vesper Chapter #128, O.E.S, also a past officer of Champaign Court #17, Order of the Amaranth and Mizpah Shrine #11, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers of Champaign County and a member of University Place Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707 or University Place Christian Church, 403 South Wright St., Champaign, IL 61820.
